Department of Horticulture was established in 2006 with the approval of establishment of Government Degree College Rudraprayag specifically as a college of professional studies by Uttarakhand government order letter no 45/xxiv/(6) 2006 dated 01.07.2006 in the view of rapidly changing scenario and necessity for change of higher education in India.
Vision
To impart career oriented education to students from all section of the society and to develop quality human resource for meeting the requirements of coming century and tackle the emerging challenges of Himalayan region in horticulture and its allied sector.
Mission and broad objectives of the Course
Our mission is Intellectual and Professional growth of students through regular and career oriented courses. The college also has a planning to extend its services in the fields of horticulture through extension activities to develop horticulture sector in this region. Horticulture seeks to improve plant culture methods, the sustainability of the environment, enriching economic vitality, and influencing the quality of life of individuals and their communities. Horticulturists have a broad knowledge of ornamental plants, vegetables, fruit and non-fruit bearing trees, turf grasses, vines, and shrubs. Focus of the program is to prepare students/horticulturists to be qualified and meet the challenges for self-employment or employment in this industry. Beside teaching and research works, the department has also been engaged in field extension programs related to horticulture.
